This initiative reflects our continued dedication to uplifting students and investing in the future of our community. Through this program, we aim to support students as they take the exciting next step toward higher education and expand their understanding of financial wellness.
This year’s honorees include: Chloey Lindsey (Bossier High School), Astha Bhusal (Greenville High School), Haley Grimes (Rivercrest High School), Adalyn Tyson (Queen City High School), Kennedy Warner (Pleasant Grove High School), Miranda Alvarez (Linden Kildare High School), Madison Nickleberry (Texas High School), Taylor Dees (Mcleod High School), Leslie Garcia (Liberty Eylau High School), and Remington Clayton (Atlanta High School).

RRCU’s Financial Education Advocate, Naque Stephens, said, "Each of these students have such a bright future ahead of them and I'm honored that RRCU can be a part of their journey. I am proud of their dedication to their community, their education, and to financial wellness. I'm excited to see where this next step leads each of them!"

Plan Ahead Today for Peace of Mind Tomorrow
Why It Matters
Without a joint owner, POD (Payable on Death) or beneficiary, accounts may need to go through the estate process, requiring additional documentation and time before funds can be accessed. Planning ahead helps avoid unnecessary stress and delays.
Taking a few simple steps now can make a difficult time much easier for your loved ones later. At Red River Credit Union, we’re here to help you prepare with confidence.
- A fast, simple and free way to help your loved ones after you pass is by adding them as a POD to your accounts so funds can transfer directly—no delays or legal complications, just a death certificate.
- Keep your account information organized and let a trusted person know where to find it when the time comes.

Fraud Fighter's Handbook
Cryptocurrency Fraud
Cryptocurrency has moved from a niche technology to a mainstream financial topic, and with that growth has come a surge in sophisticated fraud schemes targeting everyday consumers. The most important takeaway for members is simple: crypto transactions are fast, irreversible, and attractive to scammers, which makes awareness the strongest defense.
The Rise of Crypto Based Scams
Criminals increasingly use digital assets because they can move money quickly and anonymously. According to the Federal Trade Commission, consumers reported over $1 billion in crypto related losses in a recent 12-month period.
The most common patterns include:
- Investment scams — Fraudsters promise guaranteed returns, “insider” opportunities, or automated trading systems. Once money is transferred, the platform disappears or blocks withdrawals.
- Impersonation scams — Scammers pose as government agencies, tech support, or even credit union staff, insisting that members must pay fees or resolve issues using cryptocurrency.
- Romance scams — Criminals build online relationships and then pressure victims to “invest together” in fraudulent crypto platforms.
- Phishing and account takeover attacks — Fake emails, texts, or websites trick members into revealing login credentials for crypto exchanges or digital wallets.
Why Crypto Is a Prime Target for Fraudsters
- Irreversible transfers — Once crypto is sent, there is no chargeback or dispute process.
- Anonymity — Scammers can hide behind wallet addresses instead of bank accounts.
- High public interest — Many consumers are curious but unfamiliar with how crypto works, making them easier to manipulate.
- 24/7 global markets — Fraud can happen at any hour, across borders, with no central authority to intervene.
Red Flags Members Should Watch For
- Pressure to act immediately
- Requests to pay in crypto for taxes, fees, or debts
- Unsolicited investment opportunities
- Promises of guaranteed or unusually high returns
- Instructions to keep the transaction secret
- Being asked to install remote access software
We encourage you to pause and verify before sending funds. A quick call to the credit union can prevent irreversible losses.
If You Suspect Fraud
- Stop all communication with the scammer
- Document all messages, receipts, and wallet addresses
- Report the incident to the credit union
- File a report with the FTC, IC3.gov, or local law enforcement
- Change passwords and enable multi-factor authentication on all accounts
While recovering lost crypto is extremely difficult, early reporting helps prevent further harm and supports broader fraud prevention efforts.
Key Message
Cryptocurrency is an evolving financial frontier, but the fundamentals of fraud prevention remain the same: slow down, verify, and never send money—crypto or otherwise—to someone you don’t fully trust. Red River Credit Union is a partner in member safety, and staying informed is the strongest shield against emerging scams.
